Employee Wellbeing Programme
An Employee Wellbeing Programme (EWP) or Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) is scheme that gives employees access to confidential support, professional advice and short-term counselling to help them deal with personal and work-related problems that are impacting their physical and mental wellbeing at work. EWP’s are considered to be one of the most effective ways for employers to look after the wellbeing of their employees and play an important role in helping to boost and maintain workplace morale, motivation and engagement.
How can an EWP help?
The financial cost of absence due to sickness, low productivity and matters of employee health can be sensitive and difficult to manage for many employers. Some of the benefits of a good EWP:
- An increase to employee morale.
- A higher retention rate.
- Improved employee performance.
- Improved productivity.
- A happier and healthier workforce.
- Reduced company costs from lower absenteeism.
What is involved?
It really depends on the level of support you are prepared to offer. The EWP of each business is bespoke. It can range from a few pages in your staff handbook to full confidential professional support. Your EWP shows you are committed to the wellbeing of your employees. A report by the U.S. “Department of Labor” found that for every dollar invested in an EWP, employers generally save anywhere from $5 to $16. Your EWP can be regarded as a business expense by HMRC.
